OCCUPATIONAL AND PHYSICAL THERAPY

Occupational/Physical Therapy (OT/PT)  services are provided in the school setting to assist the student in accessing educational services and to benefit from their educational program.  Therapists do not try to cure the student's disability, but to assist them to function safely in the school setting and access school activities as much as possible.  IEP goals are developed for accessing core curriculum and educational environments, including playground and lunchroom. These goals are worked on by classroom staff in consultation with the Therapist. Therapists share their knowledge and skills with school personnel to ensure that OT and PT interventions are educationally appropriate and functional.

Many districts hire their own therapists, others contract with the SELPA for provision of OT and or PT services.

OT/PT Operational Network

2023-2024

The OT/PT Operational Network is a collaborative opportunity for school-based OTs, PTs and related providers.  Representatives from all districts are welcome!  One representative from each district/school is recommended to share ideas from the meeting.

With the changes in service delivery due to the pandemic, the SELPA is offering more frequent meetings to support the OTs and PTs in Ventura County. All meetings will be conducted virtually and on varied dates/times so that more people can attend.  Certificates of attendance will be available for registered participants who complete the meeting. Some meetings will be recorded for repeated viewing.  There is no cost for these workshops, however, online registration is required.

(Email Nick at nvlahos@vcoe.org if you would like to share)
